This is a closer look at the Old folks home, or “Azilul”, that gives the street its name.

Roadworks

This is along Str. Azilului, just down from the Liar’s Bridge, where I was staying for my final week. Obviously due to roadworks cars could only get to the end of the road, but luckily I didn’t have to lug my luggage too far to the waiting taxi! The red gate about half way down on the right was the entrance to where I was staying.

Reschner’s Clavier

Just to the side of the Liars’ Bridge (Podul Minciunilor) coming off Piata Mica was this lovely old building – I’ve shown pictures of the green building opposite it several times. You can see the distinctive Sibiu roof “eyes” really well on this one.

Cute car

For most of my final week in Sibiu I saw this cute little car parked in or around Piata Mica, I presume it belonged to a local business. There will be more pictures of it before this blog is laid to rest!

Eis Eis baby!

I showed the scary Ice man a few weeks ago – this mannequin stands outside an icecream parlour called Eis in the town centre. I always found him really creepy I must admit, but they always seemed to be doing plenty of business so I guess he didn’t put everybody off!

Balcony view

This is the view turning about 45 degrees left from yesterday’s photo, also from the door of my room. I love the rambling plants and ramshackle roofs (rooves?).

Old Folks’ Home

Posted by Jackie on October 31, 2009

Romania 2007 (16) 025

For this final week in Sibiu I was staying in a little hotel (Podul Minciunilor) in Str. Azilului. This is the view from my door. The orange building over the road is the “Azilul” (Old Folks’ Home) that has given its name to the street – it goes along pretty much the entire length of the street. The building was being renovated (and the street was being dug up) so nobody was living there while I was there, I don’t know if it’s being used now, either for its original purpose or any other.

This is the last bit of art I’ll show from the Primaria. I’ve no idea what it’s all about.

This was another of the exhibits, right in the entrance.

Chandelier

I took this in the Primaria looking up. I think this was a chandelier, although I can’t see the bulbs in the photo so it might have been a hanging sculpture. Whatever, I thought it was pretty bonkers.
