Mystery church

Romania 2007 (12) 050

This little church stands in the square front of the bus and train stations. I have to admit I know nothing about it at all, it’s not marked on my map, so I don’t know what it is called and have no idea if it is in use or not. I assume it’s some sort of Orthodox chapel, but I’d love it if any locals could explain! Va multumesc mult!

Ursuline Church interior

Posted by Jackie on April 21, 2009

Romania 2007 (11) 018

On my way back up the hill from yesterday’s picture, I noticed the outer doors to the Ursuline Church were open, so I peeked inside and took a picture of the inside of the church.

(Apologies for not returning blog comments – I have a virus (medical not computer) which makes spending too long on the computer uncomfortable – will hopefully return to normal service soon 🙂 ).

Church and state

Romania 2007 (10) 044

This is in Str. Mitropoliei. I liked the juxtaposition of the flags on one side of the road (EU and Romanian flags) and the lovely church spire on the other side. The church is Hungarian, a reformed church. A bit further down the road is the Orthodox Cathedral, which I’ve shown before and which will feature again later in the week.

Ursuline Church

Romania 2007 (10) 016

This church, on Str. General Magheru, is the Ursuline Church. It is, as far as I know, Roman Catholic, but is known as the Ursuline church as it was taken over in 1755 by Ursuline nuns. Prior to that it was firstly a Dominican monastery and then taken over by the Lutherans, where it was known as Klosterkirche.

PS Thanks to everyone who has visited and left comments recently, I do really appreciate it. I am snowed under at work but hopefully after my evil deadline (next Monday) is out of the way I will be able to return the favour and visit your blogs 🙂

Roman Catholic Church and sky

Turning a bit further to the right of yesterday’s picture, here’s the Roman Catholic church that sits between Piata Mica and Piata Mare, also under that amazing sky.
