Final sky

This is my last picture of *that* sky. I love the silhouette of the intricate streetlamp against the sky.

It’s also technically my last photo of Sibiu, though I’ve got a few days’ pictures still to come – you’ll see.

My sky photos have all been of Piata Mica. This is to show you that Piata Mare looked stunning under that sky too!

Pigeons

Romania 2007 (16) 088

I’m sure I’ve said it here before, but as a former London resident one thing I really really can’t stand is pigeons. Seeing these people in Piata Mare get so close and even try to get them to eat out of their hands made me shudder! Ugh ugh ugh!

Oasis

Romania 2007 (16) 038

Even though this was taken in October, you can see it was still very warm and dry. In the summer during the “canicula” (heatwave) walking by or (if you were brave) through the fountain was *such* a blessed relief from the relentless sun!

I never did tire of taking pictures of the Piata Mare fountain. I’ll show it from different angles over the next few entries.

Gheorghe Lazar statue

Posted by Jackie on November 15, 2009

Romania 2007 (16) 036

This statue had been hidden behind the stage on Piata Mare, so it was only when I returned in October and found the stage had gone that I was able to see who he was. Gheorghe Lazar was the founder of the first Romanian language school, in Bucharest in 1818.
