House with Stepped Gable

This house dates from the 14th century. It can be found in Str. Avram Iancu, and according to the blurb on the information sign opposite (see below) is the oldest of the various styles of dwelling-places in historic Sibiu.

I’m guessing the extra bit on the right of the house, above the gables (which you can still see) was added so that they could add the arched doorway to the right hand side of the house. It looks a bit odd, but is certainly pretty quirky, I like it – it’s modernised the house but managed to remain sympathetic to the original style, in my view.
