Cercul Militar

Posted by Jackie on October 27, 2008

The Cercul Militar (which I presume is some sort of Military Academy – certainly Sibiu was home to quite a large army barracks) is on Bulevard Victoriei. Most of the buildings I’ve shown up to now show a German or Hungarian influence. This is where you can see that Sibiu too didn’t escape socialist realism.

It really jars with everything else that you’ve shown us. To not have stuff like this in Sibiu though would be odd too, very much against the experience of the time under communism. I wonder how Romanians will feel about these kind of buildings a hundred or so years from now?
